Soil-Structure Interaction Effects on Dynamic Behaviour of Transmission Line Towers

As inferred from earthquake engineering literature, considering soil structure interaction (SSI) effects is important in evaluating the response of transmission line towers (TLT) to dynamic loads such as impulse loads. The proposed study investigates SSI on TLT behavior. Linear and non-linear models are studied. In linear model, represented by complex impedances, dependent frequency, determined numerical simulations. nonlinear model considers behavior its material constitutive law foundation uplift a time history analysis. simplified typical lattice tower assessed. analysis frequency domain followed through varying stiffness damping values. Three different shock durations investigated. soil-structure system with equivalent properties determined. behaviors achieved utilizing rigid flexible base for structures compared estimate impact taking into account calculation. current mainstream approach structural engineering, emphasizing importance effect, illustrated using an example where effect could be detrimental structure. Furthermore, results analyzed show approach’s limitations event grand deformations.
